Goodbye To Consul Maureen Mcgovern

 Goodbye To Consul Maureen Mcgovern
 Maureen McGovern with SSH grantees.
Full size.

On May 9, 2008, Ambassador Johnson and Mrs. Johnson hosted a private dinner for political, cultural and business personalities of Malabo as well as for representatives of the diplomatic corps and international agencies accredited to Equatorial Guinea. The dinner was part of Consul Maureen McGovern farewell activities who, after a two years serving in Equatorial Guinea, has returned to the United States to be train for her next assignments which will be Rome. Maureen Mc Govern served in Equatorial Guinea during a critical period of the bilateral relations of United States and Equatorial Guinea. Maureen took on the challenges of running consular services, hiring and managing local staff (Local staff increased 800% under Maureen’s management), building facilities, etc.; and she did all that during a period in which    exchanges, mutual respect, and the desire to work together on common goals between the United States and Equatorial Guinea were increasing like it has been observed in very few places of the world.
