The U.S. Embassy in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea is seeking an individual for the position of Driver.   

Open to:              All Interested Candidates
Position:              DRIVER
Opening date:       February 13, 2008
Closing date:        February 27, 2008
Work hours:          Full-time; 40 hours/week
Position Grade:      PSA-04 or FP-10 (Full grade) PSA-03 or FP-11 (training grade)
                                   
Basic function of position

Under the supervision of the General Services Assistant, incumbent serves as driver, providing various logistics support functions such as messenger, handyman, back-up expediter among other duties. Position duties and responsibilities include driving visitors within Malabo and surrounding areas, as well as in other areas of EG; understanding defensive driving and responsibilities for security, selecting the fastest and safest routes under prevailing circumstances; performing daily mechanical checks on tires, oil, gasoline, water and battery, washing and cleaning car, ensuring gas tank is full; keeping vehicle operation record on mileage,  making minor repairs and changing tires, initiating other minor and major repairs by preparing work requests.

Qualifications required

NOTE:  All ordinarily resident applicants must have a residency and work permission to be eligible for consideration.  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1.  Education: At least Secondary School education is required.
2. Experience:  Three years experience as driver with an excellent safety record, in an international organization or a large institution.
3.  Language: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading English and Spanish are required and will be tested.
4.  Job knowledge: Knowledge of city locations is essential.  Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area’s traffic pattern. Must know defensive and detective driving. Must be able to drive on highway. Must have basic knowledge of local government protocol practices and procedures.
5.  Skills and Abilities: Must have a local driver’s license (Cat B). Must be able to perform minor preventive maintenance or repair of vehicles.   

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference.  

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy. 
2.  Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
